The Free Games Of December 2014

It is not quite December yet, but both Sony and Microsoft have announced the free games coming to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Here’s the full list.

Games With Gold

Worms Battlegrounds (Xbox One)

Banana bombs will be raining with reckless abandon come December first. Worms Battlegrounds is the same turn-based artillery action that the series is known for. It also introduces a map editing tool, as well as Xbox Smartglass support. Because I’m sure someone needs it.

The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief (Xbox 360)

Also landing on the first is The Raven, this quite traditional point and click adventure game will have you, Swiss Constable Anton Zellner hunting the thief of one of the Eyes of the Sphinx, a priceless jewel. If you’ve ever read a single Agatha Christie novel you’ve probably already got this one solved; you start on the Orient Express and your character even look kinda like Poirot - what more do you need?

SSX (Xbox 360)

Just in time to enjoy the snow and get festive, EA’s 2012 reboot of SSX is available from the sixteenth of December, until the thirty-first. Bust some über tricks in tricky mode, and stare death in the eye on the deadly descents in this edgy snowboarding title.

PlayStation Plus

Injustice: Gods Among Us - Ultimate Edition (PS4)

Injustice is a DC Comics fighting game, developed by NetherRealm, the team also behind the more widely known Mortal Kombat series. Injustice is not just a rehashed Mortal Kombat game; the fighting system is pretty different and there are no fatalities. The are super moves and destructible stages are nice, but I, personally won’t be content until Superman have his heart pulled from his chest.

Secret Ponchos (PS4)

This isometric multiplayer, dual-stick shooter will send you to the very stylised wild west, with revolver in hand, to fill your fellow outlaws full of lead … and drink your milk?

Hitman Trilogy HD (PS3)

Agent 47 has dropped his rates for the month so cops across the globe will soon be inundated with unsolvable killing sprees. Hitman Trilogy HD contains Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts, and Hitman: Blood Money.

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut (PS3)

Deadly Premonition is an acquired taste, this should come has little surprise to those familiar with SWERY’s other works. It may appear like a mere clunky, low-resolution survival horror game, but the wildly unpredictable story and its bizarre happenings is the draw here. Thankfully, the Director’s Cut contains updated controls and visuals.

Final Horizon (PSVita)

Final Horizon is a tower defence strategy, in which you’ll combat the countless tide of alien invaders across a host of planets and levels. There are some unique changes to the formula here though, the most notable being the inclusion of killstreak rewards, not unlike those of Call of Duty. I hope they have hardline too.

Titan Attacks! (PS4/PS3/PSVita)

Titan Attacks! is not unlike the arcade classic, Space Invaders. But these aliens are from Titan, because Mars is so passé. Pro tip; shoot the aliens and don't be shot.
