Check out all that Bethesda showed and announced during their demon-infested press conference, right here.

E3 2015 Bethesda Press Conference

DOOM

Marty Stratton, from ID Software came out on stage and talked about how DOOM with its fast-paced and powerful combat, made the player feel like a true badass. Stating that, your goal in DOOM is simple; to kill demons on Mars. The demonstration opens with the unnamed Space Marine looking at his Halo-esque helmet, complete with a similarly styled HUD. However, this is where the comparisons with Halo end (mostly), ‘Doom Guy’ took out his trusty shotgun and begun exploring a graphically impressive facility on Mars.

We saw some new gameplay elements, such as; double jumping over a large gap, vaulting up walls and boxes, but most importantly RIPPING THE HEART OUT OF A DEMON SPAWN! That’s right; it looks like the popular Brutal DOOM mod for the original game, has been incorporated into DOOM. Doom Guy went on a murderous rampage, killing Hell spawn in an over-the-top, cinematic and bloody manner.

e3 2015 Doom 4 chainsawThe game looks to be full of blood, guts and gore, befitting of DOOM’s name. At one point, Doom Guy threw out a small orb to find out what happened to a corpse. The orb projected a vision of a demon dragging a security guard all the way to where the corpse lay; Doom Guy then ripped the arm off said guard, using it to pass through a security checkpoint. After finding Old Faithful, the classic chainsaw, Doom Guy went on another bloody rampage; cutting the Hell spawn into chunks of meat and kicking them side. Before being taken out by an old friend; the Revenant, who ripped both of his arms out and beat him to death with them.

Marty Stratton talked about the multiplayer of DOOM, arena-styled, with modes such as; Domination and Clan Arena. Gameplay was then shown, featuring some of the ‘unique’ elements, including turning into a Revenant using a Pentagram power-up. Stratton then announced the new in-game creator suite; ‘DOOM Snap Map’. Snap Map will allow players to create new multiplayer and co-op games. Another snippet of the single player campaign was then shown, set in an oddly bright Hell. Doom Guy entered Satan’s lair, killed demons and blew stuff up before finding what looked to be Satan itself, when the gameplay ended.

It was later announced on the post-show, that the game will run at 1080p, 60 FPS on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC, releasing in spring 2016.

Bethesda.Net was announced for all of their upcoming games, including DOOM’s Snap-Map.

Battlecry

Battlecry was shown briefly; looking to be a team-based game with classes, very similar to Valve’s Team Fortress 2. They announced that they are now taking worldwide signups on their website for the Battlecry Global Beta. Players in before June 18th will receive a special in game reward. A new faction, the Han Republic was shown. It appears to be releasing in fall 2015.

e3 2015 Dishonored 2

Dishonored 2

Raphael Colantonio and Harvey Smith, co-creative developers at Arkane Studios came on stage to show off Dishonored 2, with a very cinematic and in-no-way gameplay trailer. The trailer was narrated by the Outsider from the original game, who appeared briefly at the end. You will be able to play as Emily or Corvo, who each have their own unique abilities. The game takes place on Carnaka. No official release date was given, but it’s coming to PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Dishonored Definitive Edition

It was also announced that the original game, packaged with all the downloadable content, will be re-mastered for the Xbox One and PS4, coming this fall.

A brief demonstration showed upcoming content; a fly through of the Imperial City, filled with fat demons, fire breathing demons, and skeleton demons. It later turned out that the fat demons can also breathe fire. This was followed by some panning shots of Orsinium, seen on the right, with decidedly less demons. A hand was shown with the words ‘We Know’.

The Elder Scrolls: Legends

Following a brief and slightly awkward segue concerning mobile devices, The Elder Scrolls: Legends was announced, a free-to-play strategy card game, coming to PC and iPad.

Fallout 4

Todd Howard arrived on stage, talking about how entertainment is great, games are great, and that Fallout is great. A selection of concept art was shown, containing; computers (a lot of them), air ships, swamps, junkyards, grungy cities, and much more.

Howard said that the story starts before the bombs fell. In a colourful suburban house, a man (looking like the guy from leaked script) stands in front of his bathroom mirror, alongside his wife (presumably). The new face sculptor was shown off. The appearance of both, the man and the woman can be changed; whoever you choose to exit the sculptor with is the character you’ll be playing as. Both are voiced. Apparently your baby is generated by the appearance of the two characters.

Fallout 4 e3 2015 vault 111

A household robotic butler, Codsworth, addressed the player character by name; Howard went on to say, that around 1000 common names have been recorded in game. Howard stated that conversations are dynamic, meaning that you can toggle between third and first person, leave when you feel like, including simply shooting the person you are talking to. Howard explained that, you play as the sole survivor of Vault 111, emerging 200 years after the bombs fell. The dog from the earlier trailer appeared, you can give it commands by pointing at things in the environment, the dog was shown retrieving an item for the player. Also, the VATs combat system is back in all its green clunky glory. Howard discussed the new Pip Boy, mentioning a ‘layered armour system’ and tapes, some of which are minigames that can be played on the Pip Boy screen. They showed off a real Pip Boy, which you can put your smart phone into and use the Fallout 4 second screen app, Howard admitted the app is a stupid gimmick, but argued it’s a cool one at that. The Pip Boy will be included in a collector’s edition, but the app will work without it naturally, coming to iOS and Android when the game launches.

Fallout 4 e3 2015 settlement building
At this point the Fallout 4 demonstration paused and Fallout: Shelter was announced, you can find out more below. Following the Shelter announcement, Fallout 4’s building system was revealed. You can scrap objects, including entire houses, using the materials to rebuild and decorate. There will be multiple large sites through the world where you can build. People will arrive at your settlement and you’ll need to provide them with food, water, and power. Settlements will be attacked by raiders, requiring defences to be built and manned. Howard kept claiming, “…it just works!”, which did little to inspire confidence…

Fallout 4 e3 2015 crafting
He then explained the crafting system, containing over 50 base weapons and 700 modifications. Weapons can be upgraded into other weapons, for example; a laser pistol can be rigged into a laser rifle. The demonstration wrapped up with a series of small but bloody combat vignettes, within which jet-pack equipped power armour can seen in action and a gunship was called in, the player hopped aboard the side turret.

The release date was announced; November 10th 2015.

E3 2015 Fallout: ShelterFallout: Shelter

Mobile games – who doesn’t love them? Howard interrupted the Fallout 4 demonstration to announce Fallout: Shelter, which is available right now for iPhone and iPad. In Shelter you play the Overseer of a Vault. You build and expand the Vault, equip and train its dwellers, then send them out into the wasteland on missions. Howard listed a number of games that inspired its design, including; XCOM and Progress Quest. Shelter is free-to-play, but there are no building timers and internet connection is not required, lunch boxes (containing loot) can be bought with real money.
