Just Dance 2017

Ubisoft hit the ground dancing, with a live performance of ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, to introduce Just Dance 2017, coming to all platforms and PC in October, and Nintendo NX next year. Aisha Tyler hosted again, making it her fifth appearance.

Ghost Recon Wildlands

Ghost Recon Wildlands was up next, ushered in by a cinematic trailer; the cocaine nightmare is back in force, bloody, brutal, sexy force. The scene is a vivid one; Boliva, controlled entirely by a Mexican drug cartel, like the whole damn thing, the first “narcostate”. As Matthew so eloquently put it; “Kyle’s wet dream in a videogame”.

The entire game can be played solo or in four player co-op, and features the largest open world Ubisoft has ever made. Gameplay followed, narrated by Ubisoft’s patented ‘tacticool’ presentation - fake multiplayer chatter. The players first raided a house for intel, then rode on a helicopter to a larger facility, open world hijinks more akin to a GTA game followed.

It’s releasing March 7th, 2017.

South Park The Fractured But Whole

Next up was South Park The Fractured But Whole, which featured lots of cussing (at least 12 F-Bombs) and classic South Park humor. They boasted upgraded combat, allowing the player to move while in combat and use cover, and ‘Farts that can rip through Time’. The game follows the ‘New Kid’ from the first game, they now play as Superheros in a Civil War.

Game releases December 6th. If you pre-order for a limited time you get South Park: The Stick of Truth for free on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

The Division

The Division’s first expansion, Underground, will take agents beneath the streets, to the ever shifting Chalice Dungeons - there’s even something “dark” down there, we’re betting it wears a hoody. No two descents will be the same apparently, as Underground introduces procedurally generated tunnels to fight in. It’s coming June 28th Xbox One and PC, August 2nd on PS4.

Three unique outfits are being released to celebrate Ubisoft’s 30th anniversary, for free to Ubisoft Club members; Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six themed.

Survival, the second expansion was teased next; a blizzard consumes beleaguered New York, leaving its militant inhabits with no food and no water. The cinematic trailer showed rioters beating down an agent, who escaped thanks to the intervention of his friends, naturally. The trailer ended with a heavily armoured person, seemingly a Division agent, gunning down a distinctly unarmoured agent.

Eagle Flight

Gather 5 of your closest friends, all with your own high powered gaming rig in order to fly around overgrown Paris as an Eagle, shooting projectile screams at each other while collecting rabbits in order to bring them back to your nest.

Eagle Flight releases this fall on all VR platforms.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew

Precisely what you do in Star Trek VR, we can’t say, we do know you do it with friends… Players may take the role of captain, or departmental officers on the bridge of a Federation starship, and according to Levar Burton, who appeared on stage, “it’s addicting”. What ‘it’ is we may never know.

‘It’ releases this fall on all VR platforms.

For Honor

For Honor will, according to its cinematic trailer, last one thousand years, and no one dies until the very end. More importantly it included a lady knight! A fourth faction, the ‘Black Stone Legions’ was teased.

The growling creative director Jason Vanderberg conquered the stage with his signature cane to introduce the campaign, which will allow you to play as all the factions: the Vikings were shown, raiding a Samurai stronghold. The gameplay that followed we likened most closely to a mix between Ryse: Son of Rome, and the Warriors games - pretty, potentially awesome, but appeared stilted and awkward.

For Honor launches February 14th, 2017.

Grow Up

The sequel to the quaint Grow Home, will go bigger, interplanetary bigger. Big enough to grow to the moon! It looked a lot like Grow Home, we’re not going to lie.

Trials of the Blood Dragon

It’s pretty much as the title suggests, the next Trials game is some kind of mashup with Far Cry: Blood Dragon. The announcement trailer was all shades of weird - mostly neon - out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Assassin’s Creed Movie

During this long and involved segment Ubisoft took great pains to remind everyone that Assassin’s Creed has action, and that Assassin’s fight Templars… Riveting stuff!

Watch Dogs 2

Ded Sec hacked in next, reminding America their leaders are all corporate mouthpieces. The gameplay trailer showcased several of the mechanics revealed earlier in the week; car hacking, person hacking, and so on. There was an appreciated and totally necessary degree of self awareness to all that ensued.

Ubisoft have signed another co-marketing deal with Sony; Yves Guillemot invited Sony’s Jim Ryan to the stage to announce a Watch Dogs movie. Additionally, all Watch Dog 2 DLC will land one month earlier on PS4.

Steep

To finish up, Guillemot announced a new IP, in a whole ‘new genre’! It’s called Steep, and it’s a skiing game. It’s got parachuting, snowboarding, wing suits sure, but it's an extreme sports game nonetheless. What sets it apart is its multiplayer open world.

#Skiing. It launches this December.
